A New Method To Validate Species Distribution Models Applied To Vegetation Restoration

A new method to validate species distribution models applied to vegetation restoration

Species distribution model validation is often based on assessing the ability of a model to discriminate the localities in which a species is present from those in which it is absent. Identifying the best sites for a species is not the most appropriate approach when it comes to using models to choose which species to plant or plant in an ecological restoration project. In these cases it is more about identifying the best species for a site. In the article published in Ecological Modeling, a methodology is proposed that evaluates the capacity of a set of models to discriminate between present and absent species in reference vegetation inventories.
